Our Mission and Vision
Our Story

From a POWERFUL sculpture to a global movement

The original sculpture of The Knotted Gun was crafted by the Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd in 1980 after the tragic deadly shooting of his friend, John Lennon. In 1988, a bronze edition of the iconic sculpture was donated to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.

Learn more About Our Story

The sculpture Non-Violence has enriched the consciousness of humanity with a powerful symbol that encapsulates, in a few simple curves, the greatest prayer of man which asks not for victory, but for peace.”

- Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations

Our efforts to stem violence for +30 years have resulted in

And we're just getting started...

Our goal is to educate 20 million people by 2030 on the principles of conflict resolution
– a movement of positive change,
across global communities.

Education

We believe that
knowledge is power

Our educational programs empower individuals of all ages, from children to adults, with the skills needed to resolve conflicts peacefully and create lasting positive change.

By focusing on the root causes of violence, participants develop empathy, effective communication skills, and constructive problem-solving abilities. These skills enable them to foster a culture of peace within their communities, supporting the goals outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

What matters
are the real stories

We have used this program to create a common language and narrative in our school about how we understand and handle conflict when they happen. And most importantly how do we make sure that the students are capable of handling most of the conflict themselves. Empowerment is key here.

I am very proud to be a Non-Violence Ambassador. For me, peace means everyone respecting each other’s differences. It’s a world without violence, where my music and lyrics can help build bridges to a more peaceful future.

This material has made it possible for us to practice simple and methodical exercises during our guidance periods and lessons at the school. Building the self-confidence of our pupils and their ability to manage conflicts in the work for peace, are important parts of our task to bring up the citizens of tomorrow. Our work for Non-Violence has contributed towards the improvement of the work-atmosphere and strengthened the dialogue between the children and adults of the school, positively. The violations decreased by 50%.

As we welcomed 10 new partner schools (...) I was deeply moved by how the School for Peace curriculum had reshaped perspectives on gender parity, with girls showing newfound confidence, participating actively in leadership roles, and breaking through barriers of discrimination alongside their male peers. (...) My heartfelt thanks go out to our partners and the incredible team at the Non-Violence Project Foundation for making this possible. Here's to a world free from all forms of violence.
