Young leaders camp 2025, Non-Violence Project, Uganda

May 13, 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, The Non-Violence Project Uganda proudly hosted the Young Leaders Camp, specifically designed for Peace Club participants from local primary schools. This one-day event, themed "Be a Role Model for Peace," was a remarkable success, bringing together 97 enthusiastic young leaders who are committed to making a difference in their communities.

The camp featured engaging sessions focused on essential topics such as leadership, self-esteem, and the principles of nonviolence. Participants engaged in dynamic role plays and creative expressions that highlighted prominent nonviolent role models, including figures like Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Wangari Maathai, and Martin Luther King Jr. These activities not only enhanced their understanding of nonviolence but also encouraged them to embody these principles in their own lives.

A highlight of the camp was the inspirational keynote address delivered by Ms. Atuma, a respected role model within our community. Her powerful message urged the young leaders to lead with empathy, courage, and a vision of peace - qualities that are especially important in communities facing violence and poverty. Her insights resonated deeply with participants, fostering a sense of responsibility and urgency to champion positive change.

Throughout the day, participants also had the invaluable opportunity to share their challenges in an open forum, fostering camaraderie and mutual support among peers. The event culminated in a meal and fun games, allowing the young leaders to bond and celebrate their commitment to peace and leadership.

The Young Leaders Camp not only equipped participants with the necessary tools to become ambassadors of peace but also inspired a community of young individuals dedicated to creating a nonviolent future. We look forward to continuing this tradition and empowering the next generation of leaders in our upcoming Step-Up Youth Camp for secondary school students in the second quarter of the year.
