Noh Musician, Cultural Ambassador

Shonosuke Okura

Shonosuke Okura is a master Noh musician and cultural ambassador, preserving and sharing Japan’s rich musical heritage with the world. Born into the prestigious Okura school of Noh Otsuzumi and Kotsuzumi, a lineage dating back to the Muromachi period, he began his training under his father, Chojuro Okura, and grandfather, Choemon Okura, making his stage debut at the age of nine. He holds the distinguished title of General Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property as a Noh Otsuzumi player.

Okura has performed for world leaders, at government-hosted music festivals, and even at the Vatican, where he was invited to represent Japan. Beyond traditional Noh performances, he collaborates with artists from around the world and actively engages in international cultural exchange. His presence in media, including commercials and documentaries, further reinforces his mission to share Japanese culture globally.

As a Non-Violence Ambassador, Okura continues to promote peace and unity through the power of art and tradition.
