Nicolás Lapentti is a former professional tennis player from Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he was born in 1976. Over the course of his impressive career, he reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 6, won five ATP singles titles, and represented Ecuador in numerous Davis Cup competitions. He also competed in more than 15 US Open tournaments in New York and has visited the United Nations several times during his time on tour.
Lapentti’s journey with The Non-Violence Project is rooted in a personal connection. He grew up in the same city and is the same age as Victor Huerta Jouvin, the organisation’s Country Manager in Ecuador. The two have known each other since their youth, and in more recent years they have discovered a shared interest in philanthropy and social development.
Well aware of the Knotted Gun symbol and its powerful message long before Huerta Jouvin reached out, Lapentti was eager to join the mission. Through his foundation, established in 2000 to bring tennis to underprivileged communities and develop future champions, he continues to make a lasting impact - now expanding that commitment as a Peace and Non-Violence Ambassador.
The Non-Violence Project Foundation is a non-profit organization with special consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
