Our approach is based on a belief in the transformative power of education and its potential to build and ensure a strong base for tolerance, empathy, acceptance and respect for human rights.

AIMING FOR THE ROOT, NOT THE BLAME

Prevention and intervention: our educational focus is based on prevention, intervention and on measures that address root issues, rather than punish behavior(s) or feed blame.

Interacting is key: almost thirty years of educational experience of interacting with students is one of our strongest assets when we create and deliver our educational programs to children, teenagers or adults.

All audiences: On top of focusing on youth, we have developed over the years programs dedicated to adults on many issues as sexual harassment prevention, gender equality or mobbing prevention just to name a few.

THE 5 PILLARS OF OUR PROGRAMS

1 | TRANSFORMATIVE INSIGHTS

We encourage the programs’ attendees to become active learners. They are encouraged to listen to all points of views, share experiences and opinions in a respectful way, ask critical questions and resolve conflicts when necessary. We help students to see things in a new light and with new perspectives. We allow them to question their assumptions and values. Reflection and dialogue enable them to transform the way they see themselves, their community and eventually the world.

2 | CREATIVITY AND INTERACTION

Our attendees are encouraged to use their vibrant energy, creativity and active potential to promote peace and social justice with their friends, families and within their own communities.

3 | EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Our participants learn through experience by participating in fun and engaging activities that encourage critical thinking, problem solving and decision making in the contexts that are personally relevant to them. This type of learning also makes opportunities for debriefing and consolidation of ideas through feedback, reflection and the application of the ideas and skills to new situations.

4 | HOLISTIC VIEW

We engage in developing the whole person and allow room for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development. We consider the human being multi-dimensional and we shed light on conscious and unconscious aspects as well as rational and irrational behaviors.

5 | EMPOWERMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE RESULTS

We empower the local community around our attendees by transferring knowledge, building capacity development, support and training. Local NVP staff interact with many partners (school managements, teachers, students, community members, corporates, local authorities etc) to strengthen the ability to provide relevant programs and effective and impactful results.

OUR EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING: FROM MANAGING EMOTIONS TO MAKE RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS

SEL (social emotional learning) is the process through which people acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set positive goals, show empathy for others, establish positive relationships and make responsible decisions.

A defining characteristic of SEL is that it empowers people to manage their own behavior in positive and productive ways, shifting the control to the person.

In order to ensure a sustainable structure, we seek guidance and inspiration from UNESCO’s Global Citizenship Education (GCED) which aims to empower learners to assume active roles to face and resolve global challenges and to become proactive contributors to a more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure world.
