Summary: Sports For Peace

OBJECTIVE: Athletes will be able to identify the importance of and build on healthy self-esteem, use conflict management skills to solve problems, and learn how to act in peaceful and non-violent way.

Sports For Peace Students Booklet Lavel 01SPORTS FOR PEACE – LEVEL 1

Level 1 serves as an introduction to our three main subjects: self-esteem, conflict management, and non-violence. On this level, athletes begin to understand the main concepts behind each subject. The objectives for each subject are:

Self-esteem – athletes will begin to identify their own strengths and understand the importance of self-esteem in sport.

Conflict management – athletes will learn that there are different perceptions about conflict and that there are different ways we behave in different conflict situations. They will also learn to identify feelings and needs, and recognize the importance of active listening.

Nonviolence – athletes will learn about the history of the Knotted Gun and The Non-Violence Project Foundation.

Sports For Peace Booklet Level 2

SPORTS FOR PEACE – LEVEL 2

Level 2 serves as a more in-depth exploration of two main subjects: self-esteem and conflict management. The objectives for each subject are:

Self-esteem  - athletes will learn how to acknowledge positive aspects of themselves and others, and become aware of the connection between giving positive feedback, self-esteem, and strengthening the sense of a team.

Conflict management - athletes will learn how to become aware of different conflicts in sports, different aspects of conflict, and of needs and concernsof the people involved in the conflict. They will practice expressing their thoughts, feelings and needs by using peaceful way of talking and to think of win-win solutions. They will also set their goals on how to improve their conflict management skills.

Sports For Peace Booklet Level 3SPORTS FOR PEACE LEVEL 3

Level 3 serves as a more in-depth exploration of two main subjects: self-esteem and nonviolence. The objectives for each subject are:

Self-esteem – athletes will become aware how their inner voice can influence feelings, behaviour and how they play sport. They will develop deeper understanding of empathy, trust, and team spirit. Athletes will learn the difference between aggressive, passive and assertive behaviour.

Nonviolence – athletes will learn about different categories of violence and develop their own critical intelligence regarding culturally inherited thoughts, attitudes, rules and expectations, specifically in sport arena. They will find out what nonviolence really is, and practice how to stop violence and oppression in sports.
